Our Origin Story
It differs from most, but it suits us.
We grew up in Kentucky, where moonshine
and homemade liquor are abundant.
In fact, they’re a long-standing part of the culture.
So early on, we learned to enjoy the taste of whiskey and
experimented with the most basic ways of making liquor. Touring the
big bourbon distilleries – and visiting the occasional moonshine still
in an undisclosed location – we became serious students of the art.
When we were sitting around watching a still run, we’d talk about the
future. A dream started to take shape. The gist of it was that if some
day we could do whatever we wanted, we’d open a distillery and
make first-rate whiskey with our friends.
Then one day somewhat recently, we got lucky. We found ourselves
presented with the actual opportunity to do whatever we wanted.
And just like we said we would, we gathered our best friends and set
about building a distillery.
We’ve made some new
friends along the way.
We’ve spent the last decade meeting, watching, learning from, and working with a multitude of people from across the spirits industry. Because we believe the art of distillation is the true differentiator when it comes to producing the best product, we’ve used our connections to recruit some of the most talented young distillers in all of Kentucky.
Most of our team comes from the craft distilling industry. They’ve won scores of awards for their work – both nationally and internationally. Our master distiller’s numerous achievements include winning “best bourbon under 10 years old” at the San Francisco World Spirits competition in 2023.
To do right by this first-rate crew, we’ve invested in some of the best distilling equipment available. We’ve also promised them and ourselves that we’ll never use anything but the finest ingredients.
In short, we’ve poured our heart and soul into Meadow Land Distillery
(lots of time and money, too).
